Bottom line
Hollow Knight scores 9.2/10. A hand-drawn labyrinth that rewards getting lost. Best on PC or a Switch-sized screen; Explorers who like getting pleasingly lost Expect about 50+ hours of play.
Our take
Hollow Knight is the metroidvania other games are measured against. A silent knight falls into a ruined bug kingdom, and the map slowly, generously opens into one of the densest worlds in indie gaming.
The difficulty is real but fair, and the art direction is unmatched. Best experienced on a PC or Switch-sized screen where you can sink into the atmosphere for an hour at a time.
