How the age gate works
A short, neutral check on first visit — required by U.S. COPPA rules, designed to collect as little as possible.
Why we ask
Under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), sites available to the public must confirm age before letting someone under 13 in. PlaycadeHub is for visitors aged 13 and over, so we ask once, on your first visit.
What you enter
- Your birth year and birth month — typed freely, not a dropdown and not a checkbox.
- We compute your age from those two numbers. Nothing else is requested.
What we store
Only a pass or block flag, saved in your browser (localStorage plus a 1-year cookie so the choice sticks). We do not store your exact birth date, name, email, or any login. If you're under 13, the gate shows a neutral "thanks for visiting" screen and does not let you in.
Neutral by design
The gate uses plain, adult-neutral wording and our standard dark panel — no kid-directed colors, characters, or "safe for kids" promises. Our branding throughout the site is built to read as a general-audience game directory, not a children's product.
Changing your mind
The decision is saved on this browser. Clearing the age-gate flag (and the
playcade_age cookie) in your browser settings will show the gate again. If you
return after turning 13, the gate will let you in. For the full policy, see our
Privacy & COPPA Notice.
